EtQ Announces Tools to Comply with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act

FARMINGDALE, NY (02-07-11): EtQ is pleased to announce a best practices set of modules and processes designed to comply with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act.

With the signing of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law, the United States and the world have taken a giant step forward to ensuring a national food safety program over the next 5 years. This historic food safety legislation represents new methodologies into how regulators will approach food safety and how organizations will response to food safety events. EtQ has also implemented methodologies that align well with many of the new proposed regulations.

Recall Management: As part of the new FSMA legislation, the FDA will have the authority to mandate a recall from an organization. Like any process, recall management involves many roles and steps to ensure that the product is effectively removed, the affected parties notified and measures are taken to inform the FDA at every step of the recall process. EtQ’s workflow technology provides the business process automation and document management capabilities to automate the recall process. This methodology helps to not only ensure a streamlined recall process, but also ensures all steps within the process are completed and reported.

Preventive Controls: FSMA incorporates Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans, as well as a Preventive Control Plan. EtQ’s HACCP Module is designed to automate the HACCP process, but is dynamically linked to Preventive Control processes, such as:

  • Hazard prevention – EtQ provides a Risk-based hazard analysis workflow for identification and mitigation of food safety hazards.
  • Sanitation and hygiene documentation and training – EtQ’s Document Control and Training database link procedures and processes to the HACCP plan, and provide links to Employee Training.
  • Environmental monitoring – EtQ’s Monitoring and Inspection module are designed to set up monitoring plans for both operational and environmental processes, ensuring that all processes are monitored and tracked.
  • Food allergen control – Through EtQ, organizations have the ability to record and track potential food allergens by ingredient and by finished product, ensuring visibility and traceability of all food allergens.
